Our process for the opening titles of White Water Black Gold, a film about water usage by the Tar Sands in Alberta, involved a lot of trial and error. We froze different combinations of oil and water into letterforms, then filmed them slowly melting. The timelapses were then played in reverse, sped up drastically and time remapped. A biochemist onhand would have been useful, but we didn't have one so our designer Pat had to stand in. He's British, so anything he says about viscosity and friction pertaining to inter-fluidal interactions sounds super super smart.
